Health Care with Compassion, Dignity, and Respect for All Women
The Feminist Center offers specialized counseling and clinical services to address specific physical and emotional needs of women. Some of the programs are:
Culturally Sensitive Counseling: A woman's cultural framework, which relfects her religious, spiritual, and moral beliefs, affects each woman's life decisions. We are committed to counseling that is woman-centered, stepping inside her framework and respecting her life view, providing her a safe place to explore her health care decisions.
Sensitive Care for Survivors of Physical Violence or Trauma: For survivors of sexual violence or physical trauma, receiving a pelvic exam may 're-traumatize' a client. The primary objective in facilitating survivor sensitive care is to validate the woman's experience(s) by giving her as much control as possible over her appointment process and the exam.
Teen Empowerment: This program is designed to empower teens to make healthy decisions about their bodies and sexual health. Our anonymous phone counseling and education fills a critical need for accessible information. Our first time exam program demystifies a GYN exam while empahsizing the importance of regular screenings and the need for safer sex and birth control if and when they become sexually active.
