Grassroots Organizing Intern Needed
Immediately Available, Through December
18 to 20 hours per week
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists with implementation of plans to educate, recruit, and mobilize individuals from key communities to voice support for full access to reproductive freedom. Works with other staff and volunteers of the Health Center to coordinate activist/volunteer/supporter recruitment, trainings, and events. Works with other staff and volunteers in furthering educational, organizing, and public policy goals of the Feminist Women’s Health Center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Assist with organizing reproductive rights supporters and recruit new members and volunteers;
- Familiarity with and commitment to reproductive health and rights issues.
- Familiarity with lobbying, political campaigns, or community organizing is helpful.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, including writing and computer skills.
- Attention to detail is a must. Public speaking ability a plus.
- Ability to work independently and to meet multiple deadlines.
- Driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile required for in-state travel.
- Flexibility in work hours as some evenings and occasional weekend hours are necessary.
- Currently a college student or a recent graduate of a college and able to perform in a liaison role with at least one metro Atlanta college campus.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with organizing reproductive rights supporters and recruit new members and volunteers;
- Responsible for facilitating outreach to at least one metro-area college campus and recruiting and educating more campus liaisons;
- Administers and maintains records for FWHC’s email lists and networks;
- Organize and lead at least one tabling or street team per month and assist with developing other tabling/street team volunteers;
- Phonebanks volunteers weekly and periodically attends volunteer nights on Wed. evenings;
- Assists with implementing grassroots advocacy activities, including outreach, for voter registration, rallies, mailing parties, advocacy workshops, and/or other similar activities.
- Produces weekly progress reports and maintains files, notebooks, and schedules;
- Handles logistics for planning meetings, trainings, and in-service meetings for the department;
- Other tasks as assigned by the Community Services Director.
