 Stand up for Reproductive Justice

For over 35 years, Feminist Women's Health Center has been the stronghold for women's reproductive justice in the Southeast. Women and reproductive health are continue to be under unprecedented attack. The proceeds from FWHC's Stand Up for Reproductive Justice Awards Gala provides funding for reduced-fee clinical services, vital community education programs, and our legislative advocacy at the state capitol.

2013 SURJ Honorees

Medical Innovation and Leadership Award
Carrie Cwiak, MD, MPH

Associate Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Cwiak is director of the Family Planning Division and the Family Planning Fellowship at Emory and medical director of the Grady Health System Family Planning Clinic.

Transformative Visionary Award
Laura Wilkinson Sinton

A media entrepreneur, Laura worked in television for decades and was one of the first female disc-jockeys in rock radio. She is a fierce advocate for women's health and justice, having served both as a volunteer and on boards of organizations championing women's causes. She runs her consultancy Vox Advisory, LLC, and just launched "Freshtape™," a new consumer product for keeping food fresh.

Outstanding Community Catalyst Award
Mariela Romero

Focusing on topics ranging from health and wellness to financial literacy and education, Mariela’s work revolves around empowering the Latino community and ensuring awareness. As the WUVG Community Affairs Director, Mariela hosts, produces, and writes for the award-winning show "Nuestra Georgia”.
