Atlanta, Georgia - Thursday, May 15, 2014 - The Feminist Women's Health Center (FWHC), Atlanta’s leading non-profit gynecological healthcare facility, is pleased to announce the appointment of Janelle Yamarick as the organization's Executive Director.
Over the past 18 years as the Community Education and Advocacy Director, Janelle has been a movement-builder, supporting the development of advocates and grassroots organizers. She built the center’s Community Education & Advocacy Network, which includes effective advocacy and public policy programs with a sharp focus on ensuring accessible comprehensive gynecological care, along with community education programs that bridge the gap for underserved communities to access vital health services and accurate medical information.
"It is truly an honor to serve as the executive director of this outstanding organization," Yamarick said. "I am so proud of the Feminist Women Health Center’s continued success. I look forward to leading this dedicated staff in fulfilling our mission of providing accessible, comprehensive gynecological healthcare to all who need it without judgment."
Throughout her 24-year non-profit career, Janelle Yamarick has worked to advance reproductive justice while building a reputation as both a leader and a coalition builder on the state and national levels. Prior to her tenure at Feminist, Janelle was the Executive Director of GARAL, the Georgia affiliate of NARAL for 6 years. Janelle was a leader among the 40 NARAL affiliate organizations when selected to represent all the affiliates on the national NARAL board.
A natural community activist, Janelle has served on a variety of boards and participated in many community activities over the years, such as the Citizen Review Panel of DeKalb County Juvenile Court on foster care cases for more than 15 years. Janelle is married, has lived in Georgia for over 30 years and loves spending time in her garden and with her dogs.
Since 1977, the Feminist Women's Health Center has strived to empower her constituents and vulnerable communities through service, education, and advocacy. Feminist has earned an outstanding reputation for providing quality care and community education, while working to improve health and expanding our reach to immigrant and LGBT communities.
