Free mammograms and clinical breast exams offered, with all participants receiving a free Aware Breast Self-Exam kit, made possible by a collaboration of The Health Initiative, Feminist Women’s Health Center, and Dekalb Medical.
Atlanta, GA – The Feminist Women’s Health Center in collaboration with The Health Initiative will host Dekalb Medical’s mobile mammography “Wellness on Wheels” bus in Atlanta on Wednesday, February 11 as a part of the free “FWHC <3 Breast Health” day. The event also features free clinical manual breast exams, Aware Breast Self-Exam Kits, and general information on breast health.
"We're excited to provide free mammograms and clinical exams, which are vital in the early detection of breast cancer," said Joline Milord, RN, Clinic Director of the Feminist Women’s Health Center.
Annual mammograms are an essential part of wellness for women over 40. Dekalb Medical’s state-of-the-art digital mammography is certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and includes computer-aided detection backing up the expertise of its board certified radiologists who are specially trained in mammography.
Made possible by their Susan G. Komen grant award, The Health Initiative is providing the funding to operate the mobile mammogram bus while the Feminist Women’s Health Center provides the medical practitioners and staff necessary to host the bus.
“Our ongoing partnership with The Health Initiative has allowed many of those in our community who are under or uninsured to receive the health care they need,” said Janelle Yamarick, Executive Director of the Feminist Women’s Health Center. “The mammogram bus is an ideal way for FWHC to complement the preventative health services that we are already provide in our Cliff Valley Clinic.”
